Analysis Of The Movie The Backyard - 951 Words
In the booming metropolis of Los Angeles one small house is fighting to remain standing in an ever changing cityscape. This quiet home in Los Feliz is quite extraordinary, however. In the backyard of this dwelling stood the first Disney Studio. Although the backyard studio was moved to Garden Grove and turned into a museum, the remaining historic ties of the home should be enough to preserve such an important landmark in cinematic history. The 1914 Craftsman Bungalow in Los Feliz was the first residence of Walt Disney after his move to Los Angeles in his pursuit of becoming a film director. Walt lived with his Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Robert to whom he paid $5 a week in rent. After an unprosperous career as an actor and movie extra, Uncle Robert encouraged Walt to seek more steady employment. Roy Disney, brother of Walt, persuaded his brother to once again pursue animation as he had done at home in Kansas City. In the garage behind the house Walt created a makeshift studio for his early animations with Roy before the duo acquired a larger production facility across the street. The house remained an important part of Disney Family history and was the site of the Roy and Edna Disney wedding as shown in home videos available online. The residence remained in the Disney family for 30 more years. In May 2016 Sang Ho and Krystal Yoo bought the property with the intention of tearing it down and building a new two-story house on the site. Significance Financial Instruments Closure ââ¬Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Significance Financial Instruments Closure? Answer: Introduation The IFRS structure determines two capital concepts; a financial concept of capital and a physical concept of capital. Financial concept of capital is the concept which is related to companys net assets and equity, whereas a physical concept of capital is a concept in which capital is related to the entitys productivity capacity (Bauer, O'Brien and Saeed, 2014). Further description of this concept is enumerated as below: Financial capital maintenance A financial concept of capital is the concept which is related to companys net assets and equity (van Mourik, 2014). While using a financial concept of capital, profit generation is only made if the net assets financial amount, during the ending period is larger than the beginning period of net assets, further is adjusted only for any distribution which was made to the owners at that the period. The major consideration provided by the users regarding the financial statements is with the financial capital maintenance of the company. This concept is supported by following two equations: Assets Liabilities = Equity Opening equity (net assets) + Profit Distributions = Closing equity (net assets) Physical capital maintenance A physical concept of capital is a concept in which entitys capital is based all upon on the production capacity, regarded on its output units. While using a physical concept, income is generated only if the entitys physical production capacity during ending period is more than the productivity during the beginning period, adjustment regarding any distributions will be paid to the owners at that period, or an increase in equity capital (McNeil, Frey and Embrechts, 2015). The major consideration provided by the users regarding the financial statements is with the productive capability maintenance of the company. A financial concept of capital must be implemented when the financial statement users is concerned about the capital investment maintenance or the purchasing capacity of the capital investment. A physical concept of capital must be implemented when the financial statement users is concerned about the entitys physical production capacity, and current value accounting. Profits are generally more during the implementation of the financial concept of capital as compared to the physical concept of capital, all because of inflation. The new and revised AASB 9 integrated the IASBs comprehensive work mentioned in Phase 1 of its project for the replacement of IAS 39 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement (AASB 139 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement) categorization and considerations of financial assets and liabilities. In addition to this, IASB comprehended its project on de-recognition of financial instruments (Bamber and McMeeking, 2016). This Standard is inclusive of requirements for the categorization and consideration of financial instruments, also the requirements of recognition and de-recognition for financial instruments. AASB 9 (issued in 2009) had only considered the requirements for the classification and measurement of financial assets which is consequential from the initial part of Phase 1 of the IASBs project which has objective to replace IAS 39 (AASB 139). AASB 9 Financial Instruments basically changes the means by which financial instruments are categorized and considered (inclusive of the measurements of provisions for impairment), and it also establishes extra flexibility in order to apply hedge accounting in a wider range of the activities of risk management (McMeeking and Bamber, 2015). This new and revised standard is likely to have wide consequences for entities across various industries, not just those in the sector of financial services. Current needs; Financial instruments will be shown on the basis of net approach only is an entity has an authorized enforceable right to compensate and aims to settle down on a net basis or recognize instruments at once. New and revised guidance Right to begin should be made available for balancing applicable rules Right is not conditional on future events The right should be legally enforceable in the regular course of business, bankruptcy, insolvent or default events. Before that there were four categories in accordance with AASB 139: first is the identification of fair value by PL, Second held to maturity, third loans and receivables and fourth financial assets for sale. AASB 9 contains two categories of financial assets which are Amortised cost and Fair value. In order to make an investment in equity tools, the amortised cost will not be applied, and the category of fair value category is applicable (Tahat and et al., 2016). According to this category, profit and loss of fair value are known in PL unless it is an element of hedging affiliation or its an equity tool investment (not for the trading purpose) and the company has made permanent elections to show profit and losses on that investment regarding other comprehensive income. If a company makes permanent elections for the equity instruments purchase, profits and losses must be realized in gain or loss. Once the election shows profit and loss in other comprehensive income, then it should be done the date of acquisition, it is significant for the business management to make a consideration of the policies and options of accounting previously for any purchases (McDonough and Shakespeare, 2015). While the election is completed on the basis of the item by item, mostly companys gives priority to the blanket policy choice, in which profit and loss on each investment will be presented in equity instruments in other comprehensive income. Left companies require to state choice on the basis of a case by case on the date of acquisition. For this purpose, the election is permanent and has no chance of change regarding assets life. Whilst AASB 9 allow firms to make permanent election to show profits and loss made on investments will be presented in equity instruments in other comprehensive income, it decreases instability in the total net gain for many and reduce the apparent instability in accounting for financial assets which are available for sale as per AASB 139 (Byrne, 2014). Discriminatory Essay Example For Students
Discriminatory Essay Equal Employment Opportunity ComplaintIn order for John to file a discrimination complaint against his employer, he is required to file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Complaint counselor or representative of the company. Once the charge has been filed, an investigation is taken place, or the charge maybe selected to an EEOC program and maybe dismissed. In this case, John is given a certain number of days to file a lawsuit on his behalf. This process would have to go through several lengthy stages such as the EEOC administrative process. If gone to trial it must go through filing of a summons, response and answer, discovery process, enlisting of experts, pre-trial, actual trial and a possible appeal. In the EEOCs Charge Process, John must go to his EEOCs representative within this company and file a complaint. This is considered the administrative process. Pertinent information must be given about the plaintiff and defendant such as name, address and phone number, the date and a brief description of the charge. Once the charge has been filed the employer is notified that charges have been filed. The charge would be thoroughly investigated. A written description and date of alleged violation is requested again; interviews with people, documents are reviewed; and sometimes the facility is visited which the alleged discrimination occurred. As an alternative the charge may be assigned to the EEOC Mediation Program instead of an investigation, which both parties must consent to. If the mediation is unsuccessful, the charge returns back to investigation. There is a possibility that the charge be dismissed. If this is the case, John will be able to file a lawsuit on his behalf within 90 days. After given the notice of a right to sue from EEOC, John can then file a lawsuit within two years. This is where the statue of limitation comes into place. The suit must be filed within the discovery of the charge. John must then file a summons or a complaint in the appropriate court. Attached to the summons is a detailed complaint of the allegations and relief required in case. The defendant, Johns employer, will then receive the summons notifying them of the lawsuit. After the defendant receives the summons, they must respond by filing an answer or preliminary motion within the federal court or preliminary objection within the state court. The answer would state the allegations, which the defendant admits and denies. If the defendant fails to respond it is deemed admitted. The defendant at this time must plead any affirmative defenses and show that they are not liable because the affirmative defense rules out liability. The next step is the Discovery Process, which is the formal fact-finding stage of litigation. There are several different types of discovery processes: interrogatories, depositions, request to produce documents, physical and mental examinations and request for admissions. Both sides would then request additional information from the other party or third parties to develop their case. In most cases if privileged information is gathered, the opposing party does not have to produce this information. In addition to information gathered, the parties may be able to determine their opponents theories and strengths of their courtroom presentation. Based on their discovery plan and requests. Once the discovery process is completed, the Enlisting of Experts process is required. The plaintiff early in the pre-trial process to determine whether he has a viable claim must obtain this expert. The defendant will also obtain an expert to support the defendants theory of the case and refute the plain tiffs expert. After sufficient discovery has been made and experts are in place, either party may move for summary judgment. If the material at hand shows that there is no genuine issue as to a material fact, the court may rule and motion that there is no need for a formal trial. When either party files a motion for summary judgment, they will submit legal briefs to support their positions and the court may hold a hearing. The court may or may not deny motion. If denied, the court may grant partial summary judgment or grant summary judgment. A partial summary judgment would limit the scope of trial. .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .postImageUrl , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:hover , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:visited , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:active { border:0!important; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:active , .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9 .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u95b19b81cc342c79e4940ee688e757b9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Lottery And The Cathedral Analysis EssayThe next stage is the Pre-Trial Conference or Settlement Conference

Market Analysis of the Natural Gas industry in Mexico Case Study
Market Analysis of the Natural Gas industry in Mexico - Case Study Example research is to provide a brief overview of the current stage of the natural gas industry in Mexico and to analyze the potential effects of the recent economic reforms for the private industry. According to the EIA estimates, Mexico is one of the four leaders in shale gas reserves. By 2013 Mexicoââ¬â¢s natural gas reserves have reached 488bn cubic metres (Mexico Oil & Gas Report, 2014). Even though the natural gas production in Mexico has grown almost by 50% since 2000, demand for this natural resource also has grown significantly (by 80% since 2000) (Seelke et al., 2014). Natural gas in Mexico is mainly consumed for the national electricity generation and for oil operations support. The figure 1 visually illustrates that the increase of production scales still fail to satisfy current demand for natural gas. According to the Congressional Research Service, Mexicoââ¬â¢s gas reserves are on the decline and fail to satisfy local demand because of underinvestment in exploration of the natural gas resources. Due to continuously rising demand of natural gas, Mexico relies heavily on the import of natural gas from the US. Thus, for example, in 2000, Mexico imported about 100% of its natural gas imports. However, by 2006, the country has diversified the range of countries-importers of the natural gas, and began to import liquefied natural gas from Peru, Qatar, and Nigeria (Seelke et al., 2014, 2014). There are three liquefied natural gas import terminals in Mexico: one on the Atlantic side and two terminals on the Pacific side (Seelke et al., 2014, 2014). The experts believe that the natural gas reserves have potential for growth and forecast that it will reach 500 bn cubic metres by 2018 and 505 bn cubic metres by 2023 (Mexico Oil & Gas Report, 2014). Partially this positive forecasts are referred to the Pemexââ¬â¢s activities in relation to deepwater natural gas exploration, and, partially, as a result of expected increase of private sector participation in result of new

TORT LAW PROBLEM QUESTION (Defamation) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
TORT LAW PROBLEM QUESTION (Defamation) - Essay Example fathers who had been injured in the Great War, and all of them knew the quotation from that great elegy for the First World War dead: ââ¬ËIn Flanders field, a poppy grewââ¬â¢. Three generations have passed since the 1920s, and people no longer share these cultural references. Today in 2010 most inner-city youngsters associate the red poppy with the production of opium, morphine and heroin. The average twenty-year old in Toxteth, Gateshead or Hackney looks in bewilderment at politicians and news-readers all dutifully wearing their poppies. Why are they all advertising the drug-trade, and what connection does that have with Britains current wars? The smarter ones soon work out the answer: it must be in celebration of the fact that opium production has soared in Afghanistan since the British Army took over Helmand from the Taliban ... Since the Anglo-Chinese Opium Wars of the 1840s the British Army has long been involved in facilitating drug trafficking. But is this something we s hould celebrate each year by supporting the Poppy Appeal? BRITISH LEGION, listen to me! If your present purpose is to collect funds for the wounded of Britains elective wars in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, then you need a less controversial symbol. How about a paper representation of a shrapnel wound, red with blood, that can be pinned to each politicians lapel? ... Until the BRITISH LEGION gets its act together, we must boycott the Poppy Appeal. At present everyone wearing their artificial red poppy is signaling their support for the drug runners of Afghanistan and for those British soldiers who collude with them. 2. Whether or not the British Legion as a charitable organisation as a claimant may sue for damage to its reputation. If the answer is favorable, then the next issue is whether or not Smith may sue on behalf of the charity. 1. The most important issue is whether or not the words in the article are defamatory. Firstly, it must be explained what exactly is a defamatory statement.

What is the Origin of Christianity Identification and Discussion of Essay
What is the Origin of Christianity Identification and Discussion of Issues - Essay Example . . the most powerful moral lever that has ever been applied to the affairs of menâ⬠(pp. 28ââ¬â29). There is no denying that Christianity has wide-ranging effects on the history of man. It has been an important force that shaped culture and society. This paper aims to look at the history of Christianity, in order to determine how it changed society and culture at its period of establishment. Through the use of the Bible and historical documents, the researcher hopes to create a picture of society of the period covered by the period covered by the Holy Book, in order to understand the context of Christianityââ¬â¢s introduction. This research hopes to identify why and how Christianity became a source of development in the Western world. Moreover, through the use of biblical and historical text, the researcher can determine why Christianity was instituted in the first place. By gaining an insight as to the purpose of Christianity, this research can pose some recommendations on how the thousands of Christian denominations found in the world today can work together and bring about lasting change. This research aims to rediscover the Christian legacy and help Christian denominations fine their common heritage in order for them to face the challenges of the future. This research also hopes to understand why the Western world is now in the process of abandoning its Judeo-Christian tradition and determine whether such a move is beneficial or harmful for development. Significance of the Study/Significance to Reader As has been mentioned in the previous section, Christianity has been a major force of change in history. While a study of history shows that the effects of Christianity has not always been positive, it is also true that many values such as freedom and equality would not be present today. In R.R. Palmerââ¬â¢s words: It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of the coming of Christianity. It brought with it, for one thing, an altogether new se nse of human life. For the Greeks had shown man his mind; but the Christians showed him his soul. They taught that in the sight of God, all souls were equal, that every human life was sacrosanct and inviolate. Where the Greeks had identified the beautiful and the good, had thought ugliness to be bad, had shrunk from disease and imperfection and from everything misshapen, horrible, and repulsive, the Christian sought out the diseased, the crippled, the mutilated, to give them help. Love, for the ancient Greek, was never quite distinguished from Venus. For the Christians held that God was love, it took on deep overtones of sacrifice and compassion. (as quoted in Williams, 2012) As the world forges its way to modernity, the value of religion and Christianity is slowly being degraded. The West, the very recipient of the change and development brought about by the introduction of Christianity is abandoning its Christian legacy as horrors made in the name of religion (i.e. the Crusades, I nquision, black slavery, etc.) come into light. It is true that the formal church is (as represented by the Papacy) has not always been a positive influence for social change. As more and more people reject the value of God and the divine, it is important for believers to merge what they know about Christianity and the facts of history in order to fortify their belief. It is no longer possible for believers to disregard the crimes made in the name of Christ. The study is important because it provides a scientific understanding of Christianity and its context. It also tries to determine the purpose that Christianity served in human history, provides and insight into the future role of

Art in the Villa Farnesina
Art in the Villa Farnesina This magnificent loggia, designed by Raphael and mostly painted by his crew of helpers in 1518, shows a spectacular amount of skill. Originally the main villa entrance presided here and the room was an open loggia. The walls imitate realistic architectural form using light and shadow to trick viewers with illusion. Nature plays an important role through the abundance of vegetation in the festoons outlining the ceiling and its partitions, and the illusion of sky along the top and semi-circle lunettes. The fruit and vegetables have an enormous amount of detail, many of which were modeled after the variety of exotic and well maintained plants in the glorious gardens. The color scheme in this room feels very cool. The pinkish shades of skin tone pop out from the ceiling and the interplay between the characters shows a mastery of space and expression. The ceiling depicts of story of Amour and Psyche as narrated in Apuleiuss Golden Ass. Legend has it, Psyche was the most beautiful child of King Anatolia. Jealous of her, Venus (Aphrodite) asks her son Cupid (Eros) to pierce Psyche with a golden arrow so she would fall in love with the ugliest man on earth. He agrees but falls in love with her instead. The two marry, but Psyche upsets Cupid. Advised by the gods, Psyche sets out to regain Cupids love through service. She eventually asks Venus for aid. Venus orders Psyche to perform a series of near impossible tasks. With the aid of others she completes enough for Cupid to forgive her. He flies to Mount Olympus and asks Jove to help save Psyche from the last task. Jove does and during a formal council declares his approval of the marriage between Cupid and Psyche. Later, Cupid fetches Psyche and she drinks immortalizing Ambrosia. The two have a child named Volupta (Bliss or Delight) and Venus and Psyche reconcile. The entire ceiling focuses around the dramatic love story full of courtship, danger, jealously and pleasure. The two main panels show the Council of the Gods and the Marriage of Cupid and Psyche. Along the sides of the ceiling, Raphael depicts other portions of the story. The beginning panel shows Venus pointing downwards while discussing her plan with Cupid. This room clearly carries the themes of nature and love in a very pagan manner. Raphael successfully intertwines the characters and the style of painting while following more realistic and 3-dimensional Renaissance art. Sala delle Prospective The name of this room works perfectly. The side frescoes, designed and painted by Baldassare Peruzzi, depict columns going into the distance. Agostino commissioned him in 1519. When standing in the center of the room, the columns follow perfect perspective. Painted with detail, they imitate dark veined marble. They present an architectural foreground to the countryside background that builds on the illusion of nature within the villa. These views conveniently tie in the traditional villa scene because villas were usually built in the suburbs. The continuation of the floor into the fresco emphasizes the illusion and carries the viewer out. Divinities reside above the doors and windows and a frieze of mythological scenes line the ceiling. The forge of Vulcan has a fitting placement on the northern side, above the fireplace. Deeply coffered squares tile the ceiling and give the room a sense of depth. This room clearly plays on illusions of space and successfully engages the viewer to pe er out and interact with nature. Sala di Sodoma This room is also known as the Agostinos bedroom and was commissioned in 1519. Walking in, the walls are completely frescoed. The coffered ceiling depicts scenes from mythology, again showing more pagan references. The most eye-catching aspect of the room is Sodomas Marriage of Alexander and Roxanne. Roxanne twists her body as she gazes to the outstretched hand of Alexander. Cherubs occupy a large portion of room along the top of the fresco and within. A few even tug at Roxannes limbs. The paintings on the side show people in battle and heading towards the marriage. Stairs leading into the fresco draws in and interacts with the viewer. The reoccurring theme of love and drama clearly presides in this room. Many believe the marriage scene reflects Agostinos third marriage to Francesca Andreazza. His martial ceremony, performed by Leo X, actually took place in the Villa Chigi. Thus, the frescoed theme of marriage and love properly define the private bedroom as a place of their union. Function The Villa Farnesina truly embodied its purpose of entertainment. Agostino Chigi used this building for parties, formal dinners, his wedding, theatrical performances and more. The amount of money and time put into the villa shows how ostentatious Chigi felt about showing his fortune. Agostino Chigi would serve dinner guests on lavish plates of silver. To demonstrate his abundance of money to his company, he would order his servants to toss the silverware out of the windows and into the Tiber after their meals. Secretly nets in the water caught the pieces of eatery and eventually made their way back to the villa. Architectural choices by Peruzzi emphasize the theatrical purpose of the building. Peruzzi alludes to the function by using Vitruvian authority. Vitruvius explains the design of Roman theatre through arithmetic ratios. Lower stories should have pedestals and an entablature respectively one third and one fifth the height of its columns while upper storey pedestals have half the height and columns have three fourths the height of their lower level counterparts. Peruzzi followed the advice with exactness. In the early 1500s, theatrical events adapted to their environment not the other way around. The u-shape, and open Loggia di Psyche creates an ideal enclosure for performances. At the time, a raised stage flanked the two wings to line the loggia. Actors entered from the rooms openings. Thoughtfully, the frescoes in the Loggia di Psyche just cover the ceiling while the paintings on the walls restrict themselves to architectural and patterned designs. This made setting changes and backdrops easier to create and adapt to during performances. Illusionary perspective and Muses carrying tragic and comic masks along the walls continue the theatrical implications upstairs in the Sala delle Prospettive. Goals of the Patron The goal of creating a building to function as a location for entertainment, partying and showing the wealth of the Chigi family definitely succeeded. In addition, bringing nature into the building presents another major goal when building a villa. At first glance the exterior is lined with an abundant amount of windows, allowing natural light in and connecting the rooms to nature as much as possible. Furthermore, the two loggias were originally open. Not only would that add more light, but sweet smells from the garden and even insects and animals had access to the rooms. The Loggia di Psyche served as the original entrance into the villa. Observing the ceiling, one can see the impact of nature on the fresco. A thick festoon of leaves and a variety of fruit follow the architectural space along the spandrels and ceiling panels. This matches the frieze on the exterior. The earthly colors and background of blue sky incorporate the outside in. Even the semi-circle lunettes above the walls have painted windows with a fictitious outdoor view. The large vertical panels of windows facing the garden flood the room with daylight. Upstairs, the Sala delle Prospettive creates an illusion of countryside views as one gazes at the frescoes and past the columns. The distant horizon generates a feeling of space and infinity. In Sala di Sodoma, Alexander and Roxannes courtship is in a covered area, but effort was made to continue the story outdoors on the side frescoes, and in the background of the main fresco. Nature clearly impacted the villa as a major theme through out the entire building. Conclusion The Villa Farnesina houses art from some of the most prominent figures of its time. Each room tells a different story as one can only imagine the splendor and extravagance Agostino Chigi must have experienced when entertaining guests in his new villa. After the Chigi sold the building to the Farnese family, the Farnese made plans to connect it by bridge with the Palazzo Farnese. Building began but never completed. In later centuries the Bourbon of Naples owned it, and the Spanish Ambassador in Rome. Today the Italian state has used it for the Accademia dei Lincei and the Gabinetto dei Disegnie dell Stampe. The harmonious architecture, meaningful proportions, innovative and eye-catching frescoes swimming in pagan themes of nature and love will attract passers by and art fanatics for many years to come.

Henry Ford :: essays research papers
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 and died on April 7, 1947. Henry Ford was the son of William Ford, who had emigrated from Ireland in 1847 and settled on a farm in Dearborn, Michigan. Henry disliked farm life and had a natural aptitude for machinery. When he was 15 he went to Detroit and trained as a machinist. Henry Ford began to experiment with a horseless carriage in 1890 and completed his first car, the quadricycle, in about 1896. During the following years he tried unsuccessfully to get it into production. In 1903 he launched the Ford Motor Company with a capital of $100,000 of which $28,000 was in cash. By the time he had formulated his ideal of production: " The way to make automobiles is to make one automobile like another automobile, to make them all alike. He achieved spectacular success with the Model T Ford, introduced in 1809 and eventually produced in 1903 on the moving assembly line. Henry Ford was a major figure in the world's automobile industry for the next 15 years. His production methods were intensively studied and he also startled the world instituting (1914) the then high wage scale of $5 a day. Ford thus became a figure of legend, the native genius that could work miracles. He had considerable mechanical ability but his conclusions were reached intuitively rather than logically. He ran as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1918 and was narrowly defeated. In 1936 he and his son Edsel established the Ford Foundation, to which they bequeathed much of the company's stock.Henry Ford became a victim of his own success in that he clung to the Model T too long, refusing to recognize that its popularity was fading, and consequently lost first place in the automobile industry to General Motors in 1926. He had turned the presidency of the Ford Motor Company over to Edsel in 1919 but never gave Edsel effective authority. Edsel struggled vainly against this situation, and the frustrations of his position undoubtedly contributed to his death at the age of 50. Edsel's oldest son was released from the navy and made an executive vice-president.

An Evaluation of Immanuel Kantââ¬â¢s ââ¬ÅThe Enlightenmentââ¬Â
In the essay ââ¬Å"What is Enlightenment,â⬠Immanuel Kant (1784) cited his views on ââ¬Å"enlightenmentâ⬠and how it affects the general public. He wrote:à Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another.Kant asserted that it is only after an individual liberates himself from guidance of others that he will be able to use the freedom he wants to exercise. In carrying out his duty, for example, man can argue but he cannot revolt as it most definitely will result to failure.Public and Private ReasoningTalking about achievement of enlightenment, Kant identified two types of reasoning: public and private. Public reasoning is being utilized when an individual makes an argument for the purpose of marking progress. On t he other hand, rational workers who use reason in completing their specific jobs exercise private reasoning as the public need not know about their use of reasoning. Besides, people who make use of private reasoning must know how to obey otherwise the completion of the task is impossible. Many examples have been cited by Kant in explaining the difference between public and private reasoning. An example is when military men refused to follow commands. If this happens, their group could no longer be considered military. In a different case, a soldier may follow commands which contrast his personal beliefs but later on will critique what he believes. In this example, he exercises private reasoning in following the commands while his public use of reasoning is demonstrated in voicing out his complaints. As Lewis Beck (1959) wrote:Kant seemed to favor public reasoning over private reasoning as he stated that the public use of oneââ¬â¢s reason alone can bring about enlightenment among me n. The private use of reason, on the other hand, may often be very narrowly restricted without particularly hindering the progress of enlightenment.à An example involving clergymen and the case of changing the symbol of the church was provided. Kant described clergymanââ¬â¢s performance of duties as a private use of reason while making use of public reasoning in fulfilling his responsibilities to the public in making progress. He stated, ââ¬Å"For if he believed he had found such in them, he could not conscientiously discharge the duties of his office; he would have to give it up.â⬠Enlightened Age or Age of Enlightenment?According to Kant, we do not live in an enlightened age, but rather an age of enlightenment. He stressed:à ââ¬Å"As things now stand, much is lacking which prevents men form being, or easily becoming, capable of correctly using their own reason in religious matters with assurance and free from outside direction. But, on the other hand, we have clear in dications that the field has now been opened wherein men may freely deal with these things and that the obstacles to general enlightenment or the release from self-imposed tutelage are gradually being reduced.â⬠His assertion gave a clearer picture of the difference between an enlightened age and an age of enlightenment. In the former, people become religious without clergymen because they would know when to follow rules and when to disobey them. During the age of enlightenment, however, people make progress by utilizing both kinds of reasoning which eventually results in competence or the balance of both public and private use of reason. We must know how to determine when it is right to obey and right to argue. It enables us to become the managers of our own freedom.Strengths and Weaknesses of Kantââ¬â¢s ArgumentsKant offered several brilliant ideas in his essay. Specifically, his notions about public and private use of reasoning help us gain management of our own freedom. A nd if we know how to live by the rules of reasoning, we will be competent. This later on translates into moving closer to an enlightened age.à While there are really good points in his work, I disagree with some of his views. I personally do not approve of the statement that an enlightened individual should be one who is free of having anything done for him. I strongly believe that man is naturally dependent of other people. We as social beings still have to learn from others and must know how to follow rules in the society. It is never wrong to accept the guidance of others as long as we know that it will eventually result to marking personal progress which shall then help in recording societal progress. Definition and Examples of Maxims
Definition and Examples of Maxims Maxim, proverb, gnome, aphorism, apothegm, sententiaââ¬â¢all of these terms mean essentially the same thing: a short, easily remembered expression of a basic principle, general truth or rule of conduct. Think of a maxim as a nugget of wisdomââ¬â¢or at least of apparent wisdom. Maxims are universal and testify to the commonality of human existence. It is often difficult to tell whether a maxim means something, or something means maxim.à -à Robert Benchley, Maxims from the Chinese Maxims, you see, are tricky devices. As Benchley suggests in his comic chiasmus, they generally sound pretty convincing at least until a contrary maxim comes along. Look before you leap, we say with conviction. That is, until we remember that he who hesitates is lost. Examples of Dueling Maxims English is full of such contrary proverbs (or, as we prefer to call them, dueling maxims): The bigger the better / Good things come in small packages.Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. / One mans meat is another mans poison.Birds of a feather flock together./ Opposites attract.Actions speak louder than words. / The pen is mightier than the sword.Youre never too old to learn. / You cant teach an old dog new tricks. All good things come to those who wait. / Time and tide wait for no man. Many hands make light work. / Too many cooks spoil the broth.Absence makes the heart grow fonder. / Out of sight, out of mind. Its better to be safe than sorry. / Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As William Mathews said, All maxims have their antagonist maxims; proverbs should be sold in pairs, a single one being but a half truth. Maxims as Strategies But then, we might ask, what is the nature of proverbial truth? In his essay Literature as Equipment for Living, rhetorician Kenneth Burke argued that proverbs are strategies designed for dealing with situationsfor consolation or vengeance, for admonition or exhortation, for foretelling. And different situations call for different proverbs: The apparent contradictions depend upon differences in attitude , involving a correspondingly different choice of strategy . Consider, for instance, the apparently opposite pair: Repentance comes too late and Never too late to mend. The first is admonitory. It says in effect: Youd better look out, or youll get yourself too far into this business. The second is consolatory, saying in effect: Buck up, old man, you can still pull out of this. ( The Philosophy of Literary Form, 3rd edition, Louisiana State University Press, 1967) Maxims in an Oral Culture In any event, the maxim is a handy device, especially for people in predominately oral culturesthose that rely on speech rather than writing to pass along knowledge. Some of the common stylistic features of maxims (features that help us remember them) include parallelism, antithesis, chiasmus, alliteration, paradox, hyperboleà and ellipsis. The Rhetoric of Aristotle According to Aristotle in his Rhetoric, the maxim is also a persuasive device, convincing listeners by conveying an impression of wisdom and experience. Because maxims are so common, he says, They seem true, as if everyone agreed. But that doesnt mean that all of us have earned the right to use maxims. Theres a minimum age requirement, Aristotle tells us: Speaking in maxims is appropriate to those older in years and on subjects of which one is experienced, since to speak maxims is unseemly for one too young, as is storytelling; and on matters in which one is inexperienced it is silly and shows lack of education. There is an adequate sign of this: country folks are most inclined to strike maxims and readily show themselves off. ( Aristotle On Rhetoric : A Theory of Civic Discourse, translated by George A. Kennedy, Oxford University Press, 1991) Finally, we might keep in mind this bit of proverbial wisdom from Mark Twain: It is more trouble to make a maxim than it is to do right.

Thus, the price you pay when buying a car is not the final sum to spend. The next important thing is the insurance you are to buy. In case youre lacking the necessary sum to buy the insurance policy, look for an insurance company that will be able to offer you a discount or even a driving credit especially designed for students. Keep in mind that your grades may influence the decision of the company manager (Harrison, 2011)! Do not exceed the limit of the sum of money you have planned to spend for this purchase. Try to resist the temptation to get all the modern updating to the car you choose (Harrison, 2011). Later you surely will be able to buy a better designed model, equipped with all the latest functions and being perfectly tuned. So everything comes with time, and theres no need to increase the number of possible debts. Just get exactly the same car your mature distant relative has! When buying a car, make sure you feel comfortable with the salesperson. Dealing with a person you feel at ease with may influence making the right choice. In case you feel the slightest tension when communicating with the person selling you a car, ask to speak to another representative of the sales department or the manager. In terms of making important decisions, you must not undergo any kind of pressure and be forced to buy the thing you dont want to buy. Besides, a good salesperson is likely to give you practical advice on what model of car is better to buy (Harrison, 2011). Apart from it, mutual understanding with the sales person can encourage you to negotiate and reduce the price for the car of your dreams! Feel free to ask for a discount ââ¬â you risk nothing, but may benefit a lot! Study the contract carefully before signing it ââ¬â it is a necessary part of your business deal. Having the smallest detail that seems unclear to you, pepper the manager with questions. Its better to ask a couple of extra questions to be on the safe side than to regret afterwards. Mind the advantage of using gas guzzling when driving long distances ââ¬âusing gas instead of petrol can save you a real fortune! And finally, on having bought the car, mind your personal safety and take care while driving (Embly, 2010)! Buying a car is a truly unforgettable moment in life, make it even brighter by taking care and providing full preparation for your purchase! RACI Chart Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
RACI Chart - Coursework Example Changes in technology require improved infrastructure design. Additionally, management objectives change due to new technical knowledge, new regulations and demands of the potential customers based on their perceptions. However, development of a new network infrastructure required decision-making on the cost and efficiency of the developed system. It has to be a system meeting the needs of the business and at the same time cost-effective. The network managers of the business and their employees also need to gain more effective practical understanding of the working of the system and how to manage it for optimal performance (Schiefelbusch, 2014). In my assignment, I had to make a decision on the scale of the network required by the organization. The size of a network is an important factor to consider since it helps in the determination of the personnel required, level of expertise, depending on the clientââ¬â¢s needs. There are various types of networks, from which a designer I had to select the most suitable for my client. They include local area network (LAN) is usually designed and implemented at the scale of a small office or a single building. This network primarily interconnects the computing resources within one organization. In most cases, LANs usually depend on Ethernet, twisted pair or wireless technology. The other type of a network is wide area network (WAN) which connects a single office to the parent organization. WAN usually covers a wide area such as a metropolitan, regional, or national. Only a few organizations have the resources for building and maintenance of their own WAN links, and is usually more c ost-effective to lease them from the local phone or Cable Company. WAN technologies are different in terms of speed, cost, and bandwidth. Another type of network to use is campus area network (CAN). This type of network connects multiple LANs of the

Explain the true-justified-belief theory of knowledge we discussed in Essay
Explain the true-justified-belief theory of knowledge we discussed in class. Then make up your own Gettier case and explain why i - Essay Example However, despite the acceptance of the JTB theory, there is so much consideration to be done around the epistemology of knowledge development. For that reason, a theory of justification is required, which will lead to answers from the question that the subject (S) is justified in holding the belief that the proposition (p) is factual. Therefore, warrants to be treated like knowledge ââ¬â if a theory of justification supports the belief. Discussion The conditions required for the true justified belief theory are based on the regard that there should be the subject (S) that holds the proposition in question. The first condition for the theory is that there should be a proposition, which should warrant the subjectââ¬â¢s treatment that it is factual and one warranting to be regarded as truthful. The second condition for the theory is that the subject (S) should be one who believes that the proposition in question is truthful (Pritchard, Millar & Haddock 22). The third condition is that the subject (S) should be one who can offer a justification or one who identifies with a justification that supports their belief in the truthfulness of the proposition in question (p). ... e second condition is necessary and sufficient, mainly because the subject (S) should hold the belief that the proposition (p) is truthful, because in the case that they do not, then it would not be considered for its truthfulness or the lack thereof (Schaffer 73-75). The third condition is necessary and sufficient, mainly because it is necessary for the subject (S) to be in a position of offering a justification that their belief in the proposition is truthful and one that holds the potential of presenting truthfulness. The three conditions are sufficient when taken into account together, mainly because they cannot work singly, but require one another, before they can lead to the development of valid conclusions. For example, taking a case of a false proposition, then the subject is less likely to believe that it is truthful, and more is that they cannot offer a justification of the proposition. Secondly, in a case where the subject does not believe in the proposition, then they are less likely to consider it truthful, and more importantly; they cannot offer a justification for believing the proposition. Thirdly, without a justification about the belief in the proposition, it will be impossible for the subject to believe that the proposal is truthful, and more importantly, they will not be able to hold the belief that the proposition is truthful. In offering a counterexample to the truthfulness of JTB, the case of John will be used. From my class, I saw the ID of John, and it shows that he is from Florida; therefore, I can infer that he comes from Florida (inference 1). The second inference will be that, due to the fact that he is from Florida, then a member of the class comes from Florida (inference 2). In this case, inference 2 has been drawn from the justification

Munk Debate Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Munk Debate - Essay Example The only city that has such population in Europe is London. There are only eleven European Union countries with a population of below six million. The country is forty times the geographical size of Canada fox. If the country were to be divided like Europe, it would have about ninety nation states. Chinaââ¬â¢s population has many advantages that will contribute to its economic and political power in the 21st century. The country has approximately 1.2 billion people with the size being proportional to its economy. The countryââ¬â¢s large population contributed to its poor economy in the past decades because the largest percentage consisted of young individuals who were dependants. However, a large percentage of the population currently consists of the mature working population. This has contributed to the present economic explosion. The current population structure has resulted into the high human capital in China (Munk debates). The 21st century will belong to China because its economy is increasing at an advanced tempo compared to other countries globally. For instance, in the past thirty years, its economy has risen by a factual value of about 10. The current report of the IMF shows that China will be largest financial system in the coming years. Its economy has already surpassed the US because it is the largest manufacturer especially in the car market. Global financial reports also show that the demand for its cars will increase by tenfold in future. By 2035, the country will be using a fifth of the global energy. The global market analysts assert that only a country with the largest industrial production can lead the world. China is currently the largest industrial producer based on its large population. It goods are on demand because it supplies its products to the developing countries at cheap prices. The countries also supply skilled and cheap labor that is also on high demand in many foreign countries. This has enabled china to compete more effec tively in the market compared to its rivals. The developed countries focus on selling their goods and attracting investors from other developing countries. China targets the developing world like the African countries leading to the expansion of its market especially the automobile (Munk debates). In the past, China relied on investors, but it is currently one of the major investors today because of its 3 trillion dollars global reserves and other assets worth 200 billion dollars. Chinaââ¬â¢s economy is also expanding because of innovations and high quality education. For instance, the students at Shanghai topped in Mathematics with a score of 600, while the students in the US became 25th with a score of 487 when education achievements of students of the age of 15 were ranked last year (Munk debates). Furthermore, there are high chances that China will rule because the economy of the West is declining at a high rate because of economic crisis that resulted from excessive gambling . Additionally, the US will be spending more on debts than on defense. The West is also losing its political powers because of political crises that are exemplified by the game of Russian roulette over the US federal. The business taxes in China are very low, and this has attracted many investors. The US is among the countries with the most raised business tax rates. Additionally, th

Geriatrics and Long-term Care Essay Example for Free
Geriatrics and Long-term Care Essay Though her sons and daughters check in on her all of the time, they are not there 24 hours a day. She does not want to have something happen and no one find out until several hours or days go by. She is very active in the community and church and I expect that she will remain so, even after moving into the assisted living facilities. This report seeks to uncover long-term care/housing programs and services provided to older adults. I will focus on the mission and services provided. From this report, I expect to gain an understanding of long-term care options and the differences amongst them, so it will be useful for my aging parents. Introduction There are 1,065,502 people (15. 1%), aged 60 and above, in Virginia (U. S. Census Bureau, 2000). There are 216,588 households with those aged 65 and over living alone with 565,204 households that contain individuals aged 65 and above (U. S. Census Bureau, 2000). The second number, 565,204 does not state that the household contains only 65 and over individual or could be an older person living with their son or daughters family. If taken into the later context that leaves 283,728 elderly that lives other than their own home or with another family member. This results in a huge demand for housing of the elderly on this country. With the onset of the baby boomers coming of old age, it is necessary that the government looks at ways to handle the increased need for housing of the elderly. Determining long-term care options Not everyone will need a long-term care option when they age. In fact currently most of the elderly remain in their residence. The questions elderly must ask themselves if considering long-term care are many. Elderly may consider long term care if they have a physical or mental disability, chronic illness, terminal illness or if they are not able to care for themselves. Everyone will need to make their own decision when it comes time, but having the information about what services and programs are available will make the decision much easier. Long-Term Care Options There are seven types of licensed care services and facilities; Home Care Services, Community Based Care Services, Adult Day Care Centers, Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), Assisted Living Facilities, Nursing Homes and Senior Housing. Which one to choose depends on factors that include, cost, insurance, health needs, medical condition of the person and value for services provided? Home care services Home care services are broken down into skilled care and home support. Skilled care is provided under direction of a physician and administered by registered nurses, physical, speech and occupational therapists. Home support provides shopping, meal preparation and light housekeeping, to include bathing and dressing. Other home support services provided include counseling and social work services. Home care services allow older and disabled persons to remain in a familiar environment while maintaining their independence and security. Home care is designed for elderly and disabled people that do not need nursing home care, but needs assistance with day-to-day health and personal needs. The cost of home care is often less expensive than hospital and nursing home care. Home care service can: â⬠¢ Preserve independence and security; â⬠¢ Allow recipient to remain home; â⬠¢ Relieve stress for recipient and family members or caregivers; and â⬠¢ Prevent unnecessary hospital or nursing home bills. Community-Based Care Services If you have the ability to transport yourself to social activities, health appointments or go out for meals, community-based care services are probably not needed. However, for the elderly who cannot get out on their own, or have family that can provide transportation, community-based care services can help. Community-based organizations are broadly made up of an all volunteer staff. Services offered differ amongst organizations. Adult Day Care Centers Provides social interaction and meals in a protected environment, thus allowing those take care of the elderly person time-away. Social interaction includes activities such as physical exercise, games, trips, art and music. Some adult care programs offer medical services, such as help taking medications or checking blood pressure. In the United States of America 1,141 of 3,141 counties lack enough space for adult day care (Shellenbarger, 2002). Transportation to and from adult daycare is sometimes offered by the adult day care center. Currently cost of adult day care averages about $60 a day. Though it sounds expensive it is cheap compared to home-care, assisted living and nursing home care. Adult day care is covered through Medicaid and those insurance companies that offer long-term care policies. Continuing Care Retirement Communities Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) offer independent living in a cottage setting to skilled nursing care and in between. The services can be all-inclusive, modified to meet the residents needs or in a fee-for-service. CCRCs promote wellness, independence and socialization in a residential environment. The idea behind a CCRC is that elderly can stay in one place rather than moving from one long-term care option to the next. Example, your parents move into senior housing, then assisted living area, then for further care move into a nursing home, all of which are located in the same complex. Vice paying monthly for rent and services provided, elderly pay a fee or endowment to be part of the CCRC. Assisted Living Facilities Assisted living facilities are broken down into independent, residential or assisted living facilities. Independent and residential living facilities provide minimal assistance for those elderly with minor limitations. Assisted living provides more assistance for those elderly that need help due to major limitations. Services offered include oversight, health care services and help with daily living activities. Assisted living facilities are one of the fastest growing long-term care options available today. In 2000, there were only about 1,000,000, aged 65 and above living in assisted living or residential care (Munn, Hanson, Zimmerman, Sloane, Mitchell, 2006). Since then assisted living facilities have blossomed to over 36,000 licensed facilities providing for more than 9,000,000 residents (Hernandez, 2005-2006). The boom is due to affordability and the homelike living arrangements offered. Nursing Homes When family can no longer take of their elderly member that is injured or disabled, home cares is the preferred option, but if there are no availabilities, then nursing homes are appropriate. In 2000, 1,557,800, aged 65 and above lived in nursing homes (Munn, Hanson, Zimmerman, Sloane, Mitchell, 2006). Most elderly that utilize nursing homes are recovering from illness or injury. Nursing homes also provide hospice care for those terminal elderly; provide rehabilitation; or maintain care for those elderly with chronic health care needs. Nursing homes provide around the clock care for those recovering from illness and injury. The homes are for those elderly that need more medical attention than social gathering. Nursing homes also provide personal care in the form of bathing, dressing and going to the bathroom for the elderly. Senior Housing This is for those elderly that do not need long-term care, but live in a home that is not considered safe. Senior housing often is apartments that have been adapted for the elderly and include railing in bathrooms, wider hallways and raised outlets. Optional services provided include meals, housekeeping and social activities. Choosing the right long-term care option With the long-term care options, mentioned above, selecting which program or service is right can be overwhelming. Think about what it is that you mother, father, or both want in their older years. Ask the elderly what it is that they want? What are their needs? Do they need help with chores? Do they prefer small facilities, certain location, special living conditions? What is their financial situation? Will you be paying for long-term care or is insurance providing coverage? Is Medicare or Medicaid involved? Research available long-term care facilities near your residence first. Ask questions about what services/programs that are/are not provided, if they are insured, costs and vacancies. Check on feeââ¬â¢s for special care services or if extra fees are charged for services. Think about waiting list, if you find the one you want, but are not needed immediately or near term. Visit and tour the facility with your loved ones. Is it friendly, does it look clean, are people happy, what activities do the have for residents. How many staff is available, come back during different times of the day on different days. What the rooms are like are any options available? What are the residents allowed/not allowed doing? Is there a schedule for anything, eating, naps, bedtime, and social visits? How often are your loved ones checked on? Does the staff conduct regular care training? Ask other residents what their opinion of the long-term care facility? Check with the Better Business Bureau to check for any complaints filed. Conclusion In conclusion, though there are many choices for long-term care, it will come down to the individual, the elderly, the elderly family or a combination to determine which type of care will best fit there needs. There is no one fits all long-term care facility, such as there is no specific type of elderly person. Everyone ageââ¬â¢s differently and each will have their own very specific needs when it comes time to make a decision on long-term care. Some will choose to remain in their home while others may choose a community setting. However, one thing is known and that is the elderly population is increasing in the United States. This will lead to a higher demand for long-term care services in the future. In the past families tended to take care of their own and their parents, whereas now the elderly will have to start looking at looking at for themselves, though some will be taken care of by their children. In the end, follow your instincts. Choose a place that treats your parents with respect and makes them feel comfortable. References Bolda, E. J. (2006). Gulf War :: essays research papers
The Gulf War à à à à à In the early morning of August the second 1990, Saddam Hussein and a fleet of tanks as well as 100,000 thousand troops invaded neighboring Kuwait with out provocation or warning. Iraq also had surface-to-surface missiles to take complete control of Kuwait; this all took place just hours after Saddam Hussein had assured neighboring countries that there would under no circumstances be an invasion. George Bush entered the Gulf War for the sole reason of recovering the oil and Kuwaiti Boolean that Saddam Hussein had stolen. President George Bushââ¬â¢s goal in entering the war was to recover the stolen oil from the Iraqiââ¬â¢s, and ensure that it continues to be sold at a reasonable amount by the Kuwaitiââ¬â¢s, rather than have the prices raised or even the threat of being cut off by Saddam Hussein; there was also an extreme threat that the Iraqiââ¬â¢s possessed nuclear weapons which would endanger all bordering countries. The President said that anything less than the full cooperation of the Iraqi troops and tanks would result in immediate action by the U.S troops in his address to the people. Bush also demanded that full restoration of the Kuwaiti government must also take place rather than the puppet regime that was established by Saddam Hussein after his take over. This was one of the many incidents that lead President George Bush to take action against the Iraqiââ¬â¢s due to their involvement in the Persian Gulf crisis. à à à à à The United Nations placed sanctions upon Iraq, which lead to the starvation of one point two million Iraqi civilians. It was also the cause of the famine rate amongst children from the age five and below to rise almost one quarter from its rate the previous year. 960,000 women and children dead due to the sanctions brought forth by the UN. The sanctions, which were brought forth, involved the immediate hold put on all food, clothing, and medicines from entering Iraq. The points of the sanctions were to weaken the strength of Saddam Hussein and his task forces. In July of 1997 the U.S government held a press conference stating that it was indeed true that the figure was actually well over one point two million Iraqi civilians were killed due to the sanctions. This was one of the major set backs in the campaign of President Bush among the people. à à à à à Another fact that set President Bush back was the belief of the people that it was not worth putting the lives of American troops on the line for oil.

Disadvantages of television Essay
TV viewing takes away the time that your child needs to develop important skills like language, creativity, motor, and social skills. These skills are developed in the kidsââ¬â¢ first two years (a critical time for brain development) through play, exploration, and conversation. A kidââ¬â¢s language skills, for example, do not improve by passively listening to the TV. It is developed by interacting with people, when talking and listening is used in the context of real life. TV viewing numbs your kidââ¬â¢s mind as it prevents your child from exercising initiative, being intellectually challenged, thinking analytically, and using his imagination. TV viewing takes away time from reading and improving reading skills through practice. Kids who watch a lot of TV have trouble paying attention to teachers because they are accustomed to the fast-paced visual stimulation on TV. Kids who watch TV more than they talk to their family have a difficult time adjusting from being visual learners to aural learners (learning by listening). They also have shorter attention spans. School kids who watch too much TV also tend to work less on their homework. When doing homework with TV on the background, kids tend to retain less skill and information. When they lose sleep because of TV, they become less alert during the day, and this results in poor school performance. TV exposes your kid to negative influences, and promotes negative behavior. TV shows and commercials usually show violence, alcohol, drug use and sex in a positive light. The mind of your kid is like clay. It forms early impressions on what it sees, and these early impressions determine how he sees the world and affect his grown-up behavior. For instance, children who are more exposed to media violence behave more aggressively as kids and when they are older. Kids who watch too much TV are usually overweight, according to the American Medical Association. Kids often snack on junk food while watching TV. They are also influenced by commercials to consume unhealthy food. Also, they are not running, jumping, or doing activities that burn calories and increase metabolism. Obese kids, unless they change their habits, tend toà be obese when they become adults. TV watching also affects a childââ¬â¢s health and athletic ability. The more television a child watches, even in the first years of life, the more likely he is to be obese and less muscularly fit, according to a study by the University of Montreal. Even though your kid does not aspire to be a football star, his athletic abilities are important not only for physical health, but predicting how physically active he will be as an adult. Television further restricts an individual indulging in alternative activities such as reading, sports, religion, and active hobbies. Televisions depiction of horror, crime and violence further anaesthetises an individual from the real life problem. As television competes with other activities and experiences in a childââ¬â¢s life, parents role in providing alternatives are crucial. Moreover their own attitudes and beliefs both about television programmes and about life in general are important determinants of childrenââ¬â¢s response to television. Television may be a socialising force but it interacts in complex ways with all of the other forces in a childââ¬â¢s life to determine the patterns of socialisation for that child.

I have chosen to investigate the question Which of the qualities shown by an entrepreneur has most contributed to the success of their business? An entrepreneur Is a person who sets up a business, taking on financial risks In the hope of profit. Entrepreneurs need a lot of qualities In order to succeed In a business. An entrepreneur needs to be determined, persuasive, he also needs to use his Annihilative, be a good leader, a good decision maker and a good risk taker. I chose to use ââ¬Ëmanmade newsagents' as the business I wanted to investigate. Manmade Newsagents is a successful corner shop in Compton, Plymouth. They make money through a variety of ways such as selling food and drink, but the main way they make money Is by selling newspapers. They hire 30 paper boys at a time, who Individually deliver an average of 45 papers every morning. The owner of this shop is Graham Lam, a willing worker who is always happy to lend a helping hand and to make quick decisions, the workers at the shop say he is always happy and keeps the mood upbeat by making cups of tea often for the workers and allowing workers to have free food from the shop on certain occasions such as birthdays. The different entrepreneurial skills a business owner such as Graham needs are as listed: Determination ââ¬â http://tolerance. Reference. Com/browse/determination Leadership ââ¬â http://hob. Org/2004/01/watchmakers-leader/AR/1 Risk Taker An individual or business that tends to behave in a way that can potentially cause physical harm or financial loss, but might also present an opportunity for a rewarding outcome. Most business types that thrive on innovation will encourage a risk taker mentality among management to help support the creative process in other staff members.Source: http://www. Objectifications. Com/definition/risk-taker. HTML) Graham Lam used great leadership skills in order to succeed in his business. He did this by motivating staff on a regular basis, often offering a free compliment to those workers who he felt had impressed him over the course of the week, this seemed to work so he carried on doing It. The commitment and enthusiasm of a business leader shapes the common goals of the organization which provides inspiration and motivation for people to perform at a high level. When I asked his kills; 87% said yes and the other 13% said it didn't help them at all. To succeed with a business you must be a good leader, this keeps the people working for you organized and in order. A good leader is one Who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way Noon C. Maxwell). In a competitive business environment, effective leadership is an essential requirement in order to achieve organizational goals. To do this, leaders must be able to provide inspiration, motivation and clear direction to their team.
